About Us

This page explains what Canada Scope is, how our journalism works, and what you can expect from us. Use it to understand our mission, meet the team, and find out how to get in touch or share feedback.

What this means for you, the reader

You can trust that every article you read on Canada Scope has been written by a named journalist, reviewed by an editor, and fact‑checked before publication. We do not publish anything that has not passed through human editorial judgement – even when we use digital tools to help with research or drafting.

Our goal is to give you clear, practical coverage of Canadian news, politics, business, technology, world affairs and public‑interest stories. We avoid spin and oversimplification, and we label sponsored or commercial content clearly. If you see an affiliate link, we disclose it. Your trust is the foundation of our work.

What we cover

Canada Scope covers the topics that matter most to English‑speaking readers in Canada and abroad: national news, federal and provincial politics, the economy and cost of living, business and markets, technology, global affairs, and culture and society.

Our politics and public affairs editor, Hannah Walsh, oversees federal and provincial policy coverage. Jessica Morin leads business and economy reporting, focusing on markets, inflation and household finances. Kevin Sullivan handles culture, lifestyle and society stories. Every section is staffed by experienced journalists who bring their own expertise to the coverage.

We also produce explainers and analysis that help you understand complex issues without oversimplifying them. Our editorial mission is trustworthy Canadian journalism that puts clarity first.

How does our editorial process work?

Every story begins with a pitch or assignment, is drafted by a named writer, then reviewed by an editor and fact‑checked by our standards lead. No piece is published without a human editor’s final approval, regardless of any digital tools used in research or formatting.

Our Standards & Fact‑Checking Lead, Andrew Leblanc, is responsible for source verification, corrections and ensuring our reporting meets the highest standards. We maintain a formal corrections policy and a complaints procedure. You can read our full editorial policy and fact‑checking policy for details.

Who is responsible for what you read

Catherine Roy, Editor‑in‑Chief, sets editorial standards, makes publication decisions and oversees corrections. She works closely with Marc Tremblay, Managing Editor, who runs the daily newsroom, commissions stories and reviews headlines. The full team is listed on our team page.

Our Team – includes contact details for each editor

Andrew Leblanc leads fact‑checking and source verification. All named writers are accountable for the accuracy of their bylines. If you have a concern about any piece, you can contact Catherine Roy directly at catherine.roy@canadascope.org or call the editorial line at +1 416 555 0220.

How this works in practice

Here is a concrete example. Suppose our politics editor learns of a new federal budget measure affecting small‑business taxes. The story is assigned to a named reporter, who interviews sources, gathers data, and drafts the article. An editor reviews it for clarity and fairness. Andrew Leblanc checks key figures and verifies quotes against primary sources. Only after all three steps does the story appear on the site. If a reader later spots an error, we publish a correction and a note explaining the change.

This same process applies whether we are covering a technology policy, a cost‑of‑living report or an international event. Digital tools may help with transcription or metadata, but they never make editorial decisions. Every piece you read is the result of human judgement.
