If you are new to Canada Scope, you can explore our sections on Canadian politics, business, technology, and world affairs, or follow the links throughout this page for deeper details on our team and policies.

What does Canada Scope offer you?

Canada Scope delivers trustworthy Canadian journalism for English-speaking readers in Canada and internationally. Our coverage of news, politics, business, technology, world affairs, and public-interest stories is designed to help you understand complex issues without spin or oversimplification. Each article includes a named writer, an editor’s review, and a fact-checking step before publication. AI-assisted tools may support research or drafting, but human editorial judgement always remains final. What you get is a clearly sourced story you can rely on.

Why was Canada Scope founded?

Northern Beacon Media Inc., an Ontario corporation, identified a gap in the Canadian media landscape: many news outlets leaned toward partiality or oversimplified coverage, leaving readers without a source of clear, practical, and balanced information. Canada Scope was founded to fill that gap. We are owned and operated by Northern Beacon Media Inc. (Ontario Business Registry number 1003194827), with our registered office at Unit 12, 95 King Street East, Toronto, ON M5C 1G4, Canada. Our mission is straightforward — to produce fact-based journalism that helps Canadians make sense of the world around them.

Who ensures editorial quality?

Our Editor-in-Chief, Catherine Roy, is responsible for all editorial standards, publication decisions, and corrections. She leads a team of experienced editors: Marc Tremblay (Managing Editor) oversees daily newsroom operations and headline review; Hannah Walsh (Politics & Public Affairs Editor) covers federal and provincial politics; Jessica Morin (Business & Economy Editor) handles economy, markets, and cost-of-living issues; Kevin Sullivan (Culture & Society Editor) looks after culture, lifestyle, and society; and Andrew Leblanc (Standards & Fact-Checking Lead) manages fact-checking, source verification, and corrections. You can meet the full team on our Our Team page. Catherine Roy’s editorial philosophy is simple: human judgement comes first. AI tools may assist with research, formatting, or headline options, but no piece is published without human approval. She personally signs off on every correction and significant editorial decision.

How this works in practice

Consider a story about how the federal budget affects housing affordability. A reporter drafts the article, citing specific measures and data from government releases. Hannah Walsh, our Politics Editor, reviews the piece for accuracy, tone, and context. Andrew Leblanc’s fact-checking team then verifies every statistic and source — checking that a $2 billion figure matches the budget document and that quoted experts have the affiliations stated. An AI tool may have helped transcribe an interview or generate a few headline options, but a human editor chooses the final headline and approves the story. The published article shows the reporter’s name, a note on sources, and a link to our Sources & Standards page. If a mistake is found later, we follow our editorial policy and post a correction promptly. This concrete workflow — report, review, verify, approve — applies to every piece on Canada Scope.

What can you expect from our journalism?

You can expect clear bylines on every article, transparent sourcing, and a commitment to corrections. Our Editorial Policy spells out how we handle conflicts of interest, anonymous sources, and corrections. Our Sources & Standards page describes how we verify information, including our fact-checking process and the standards we require for documents, interviews, and data. We publish named writers so you can see who is responsible for the content. If you ever need to report an error, you can reach Andrew Leblanc directly or use our corrections address.

How is Canada Scope funded?

We fund our journalism through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and content licensing. All sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled, and affiliate links are disclosed. Commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions. For a full breakdown of our ownership and funding, visit our Ownership & Funding page. Sponsored content follows a separate Sponsored Content Policy. This transparency means you can trust that our editorial decisions are independent of any advertiser or partner.
